In the short film Genuine Earcons, Elisabeth Coudoux incorporates impressions from the IMM into her professional music-making practice with her ensemble Emiszatett.
Genuine Earcons is an experiment in dissolving the receptivity of qualitative listening through the ubiquity of earcons – in the broadest sense, sounds as stimulating attention economists. With the help of editing and montage, the music production of two ensembles – one that’s been working professionally for many years, the other assembled specifically for this production – is shrouded in such a way that even the disclosure of the entire process in the Transmedia Forms Studio does not reveal a clear objective. And yet the music that emerges is that which brings tension into the movement of the camera and underlies the approach to the entire production.
Genuine Earcons by Elisabeth Coudoux was created during the artist’s time in the Klang und Realität master’s program at the Institute for Music und Media at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, where she majored in Transmedia Forms. Coudoux was supported in this work by her fellow students Clara Keilbach, Miriam Schlünkes, Jinkyoung Choi, Lisa Stiene, Raphael Zöschinger, Sebastian Wulff, Danielle Munoz Barragan, and Mark Matthes, as well as by the lecturers Prof. Enrique Sánchez Lansch and Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling.
