Requirements for the Organ master's program
The following requirements apply for the Organ major:
For prospective Organ Literature majors:
1. A work by a pre-Bach master (e.g., Buxtehude, Sweelinck, Couperin)
2. Two works by J. S. Bach: a) Prelude and Fugue b) a fast movement of a trio sonata (or similar work)
3. A work from the German or French Romantic period
4. A work of the 20th/21st century – New Music For prospective Organ Improvisation majors:
1. Prepared: an extended improvisation in a style and form chosen by the candidate
2. Unprepared: improvisational playing of three unknown themes with different stylistic orientations in a musical form chosen by the candidate. The themes will be taken from the following style areas: a) Baroque or Viennese classical period b) Romanticism c) a distinctive contemporary tonal language For the unprepared part of the exam, a preparation time of 60 minutes will be allowed after assignment of the theme. The examining board reserves the right to make a selection from the pieces. Contact: Prof. Jürgen Kursawa
