Guitar (bachelor’s)
Guitar students can earn a degree in the Music Performance program.
The bachelor’s program in Guitar generally takes eight semesters. The main focus is instruction in the major area. Individual lessons are supplemented by chamber music and subjects such as repertoire building, flamenco or arranging music for guitar and instruction in musicology and music theory. In the third year of study students may choose to specialize in instrumental pedagogy. In addition, a wide range of electives offer students the opportunity to further develop their abilities and study outside their individual specialty. Successful graduates from the bachelor's program can continue with a four-semester master’s program in Guitar.
Detailed information about the sequence and contents of the program can be found in the Guitar (bachelor’s) module overview.
Students who study guitar in Düsseldorf benefit from a variety of performance opportunities both inside and outside the university; for example at the Haus der Universität, the Robert-Schumann-Saal, or at various churches in the city. In addition, every two years the university organizes a guitar festival with concerts and workshops by internationally recognized performers such as Eliot Fisk or Vicente Amigo. Finally, students can take part in the Sieghardt Rometsch Competition, which takes place every year in the solo and chamber music categories.
