Music and Media (bachelor's)
The degree program Music and Media combines a broad spectrum of contents and makes it possible to investigate media perspectives both artistically and scientifically, to challenge them, to invent them anew and to convey them to others. Generally lasting eight semesters, the study program provides the basis for a sustainable and independent education with optional areas of concentration. The program is taught at the university’s own Institute for Music and Media.
Building on basic subjects such as musicology, sound production, media history and sensory education, the program can be freely modified by choosing a combination of different subject concentrations.
The focus on Media Composition opens up possibilities of high-level composition for film and a wide range of media. In Music Informatics, students research algorithms, sound installations and experimental music. Music Production introduces students to the rich possibilities of studio technology. Music and Audiovisual Production conveys the complexity of camera work and editing. Music and Media Management promotes legal and economic knowledge as well as management skills, whereas Music and Text develop the culture of critical or poetic writing. Classical Music Recording introduces students to the subtleties of recording classical music. Visual Music opens the world between hearing and seeing and involves working on new forms of moving image design.
This program of study includes individualized music lessons. The further development of the students’ own music merges seamlessly into working with film, computers, text and other, perhaps still undiscovered media. The students’ independent projects attract attention far beyond the institute. Guest lectures, projects and additional classes provide additional insights into recent developments in research, society and art.
Detailed information about the sequence and contents can be found in the Music and Media module overview.
