Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments major – Viola major
Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments
1. Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 4 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 4 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:
- a movement from a sonata with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- Hoffmeister or Stamitz concerto first movement (exposition, development and cadenza only) with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- One work of free choice with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- Orchestral parts (all indications refer to the booklet "Orchesterprobespiel Viola Edition Schott"). 1 uncut video.
- Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major, 2nd movement (p. 19).
- Bedrich Smetana: The Bartered Bride (p. 37 only)
- Richard Strauss: Don Juan (p. 40)
2. Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:
- Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
- A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.
The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.
