Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Trumpet major

Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments


1. Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 4 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 4 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:

  • three works or movements of free choice with piano accompaniment from the following repertoire. 3 uncut videos.
    • J. Haydn, Concerto in E flat major,
    • Hummel - Concerto (version in E flat major),
    • G. Enesco - Légende,
    • J. Fr. Fasch - Concerto, Viviani - Sonatas 1+2,
    • G.Ph.Telemann - Concerto in D major,
    • H. Tomasi - Concerto, A. Jolivet - Concertino,
    • O. Boehme - Concerto in F minor,
    • A. Honegger - Intrada
  • 3 orchestral pieces from the following repertoire. 1 uncut video.
    • Ludwig van Beethoven - "Leonore" No. 2 - Overture, Signal (1st Trp)
    • Ludwig van Beethoven - "Leonore" No. 3 - Overture, Signal
    • Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 5 in C minor op. 67, beginning
    • Igor Stravinsky - Petrushka, dance and waltz
    • Gaetano Donizetti-Don Pasquale
    • Richard Wagner-Parsifal (Prelude)
    • Modest Mussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition
    • Richard Wagner-Valkyrie 1st act, 3rd scene "Sword motif" (1st trp)
    • Bela Bartok - Concerto for Orchestra Sz 116, 5th movement (1st or 2nd trp)
    • Johannes Brahms, Symphony No. 2 (1st or 2nd trp)
    • Richard Strauss, An Alpine Symphony (1st or 3rd trp)
    • Richard Strauss - A Hero's Life (1st trp in Bb or 2nd trp in Eb)

2. Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:

  • Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
  • A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.

The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.
