Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Violin major
Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments
1. Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 4 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 4 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:
- 1st and 2nd movements from one of the 3 solo sonatas (approx. 2.5 minutes) or Ciaconna from the D minor Partita by JS Bach (approx. 2.5 minutes). 1 uncut video.
- Exposition and cadenza of a 1st movement of a Mozart violin concerto with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- Exposition of a 1st movement of a great romantic violin concerto (approx. 5 minutes) with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- Orchestral pieces. 1 uncut video.
- Smetana, The Bartered Bride (Schott volume 2, p.55 /1.Vl measure 67) or Mendelssohn, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Schott volume 2, p.32 /1.Vl).
- one orchestral part of free choice.
2. Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:
- Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
- A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.
The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.
