Born in 1995, Leon Monschauer studied Motion Design at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, where he graduated in 2021. His final film project, An Original Title (WT), won several awards, including a Motion Award from Motionographer, the most important international platform for motion design.

In 2015, Monschauer began working as a freelance media designer and filmmaker specializing in short films and documentaries. Several works on which he collaborated were exhibited at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne. Over the course of his studies, he grew increasingly interested in three-dimensional and interactive media, engaging heavily with game engines and 3D programs. Today, his freelance work consists almost entirely of CG content for clients that include Nintendo, Gore-Tex, Lamy, Festo, and the event location Artheater in Cologne.

Between 2017 and 2021, Monschauer also animated several explanatory films on scientific topics, including e-learning modules for the GLARS project at the University of Applied Science (RFH) in Cologne and animations on the advantages of direct current in the German power grid.

In 2022, he began developing his own application for concert and club visuals in collaboration with Pascal Santaella: as oddlyspecific, the duo is working on an application that allows complex geometry and particle systems to react to music in real time. In the long term, it could become a complete solution for image and lighting control. Also in 2022, Monschauer accepted a teaching position at the Hochschule Fresenius in Cologne, where he teaches courses like “Research and Development” and “Virtual Reality & 360°.”

Since 2023, Monschauer has been teaching Visual Music Systems in the Visual Music program at the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
