Prof. Yumiko Maruyama
Assistant professor for Piano
  yumiko.maruyama(at)rsh-duesseldorf.de Yumiko Maruyama is an assistant professor for piano at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media, Düsseldorf. The pianist, who was born in Japan, studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and in Hannover passed the concert examination with distinction in Professor Hans Leygraf's soloist class. She has also been taught by Tatjana Nikolaeva, Gaby Casadesus, Christoph Lieske and Yevgeni Malinin. Yumiko Maruyama is a prize-winner of various international competitions such as Paloma O'Shea, Santander and Premio Jaen, Jaen. She plays in chamber music settings and as a soloist accompanied by an orchestra. Yumiko has also made radio and television recordings with NHK Japan, BBC London, RDF France and NDR Radio Bremen, Rias Berlin and WDR. Piano duo Recitals of Yumiko Maruyama and her sister Toshiko Maryuama have been selected many times by critics for the Concert Best 10 in Japan. CD recordings of the piano duo have twice been distinguished as the Best 3 of the Year by Gramophone and Gramophone Japan magazines.  In 1986 Yumiko Maruyama started work as an assistant professor at the Dortmund School of Music. In 2001 she changed roles to become an assistant professor for Piano at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media, Düsseldorf. Since 2002 Yumiko Maruyama has also taught students at the Institute For Music And Media.  In 2011 the School of Music awarded her an honorary professorship for continuity and exclusivity in her role both in the artistic and educational fields. Several of Yumiko Maruyama’s students are now also prize-winners of international music competitions and teach at schools of music.
