Inga Lühning, born in 1974, studied vocals from 1993 until 1998 at the University of Arts in Arnheim, Netherlands. In 1994, she went to the USA for a year to take singing lessons. She concluded her studies in Arnheim with the title Docerend Musicus in 1998.
As one of the most celebrated and successful singers in Germany, Inga Lühning has for many years been bridging the gap between the musical worlds of jazz and pop. Since last year, she has been touring Europe and Asia as a permanent member of the successful nu jazz band [re:jazz], played tours in China and Ethiopia for the Goethe Institute, travelled as a background singer with Die Fantastischen Vier and Marla Glen, and is in high demand internationally as a singer for studio productions.
Inga Lühning is also currently singing in the band of the Düsseldorf-based jazz pianist Sebastian Gahler, and is a member of Andreas Schnermann's Poetry Clan, where alongside such readers as Joachim Kròl and Heio von Stetten, her voice is delighting an ever-growing audience. Recently she has also been singing for Till Brönner’s Jazz'n'Talk series at the Schauspielhaus theatre in Bonn, and at a week-long engagement in Berlin’s Bar jeder Vernunft.
In her own band, Inga Lühning presents the very thing that made her so famous in the first place: a stylistically confident, balanced and exciting mixture of jazz and singer-songwriter-pop. Her songs, almost all written by herself, are conveyed and presented by one of the most beautiful and fascinating German voices. After two CD releases (2001 Lühning on the Jazzhaus Musik label, and 2008 Entfernung on Herzog Records) under her own name, she is currently working on a third production. In an acoustic band structure heavily influenced by jazz, this production will place her exceptionally direct and moving voice, in all its facets, at centre stage as never before.
Both live and in the studio, she is being supported by top-class musicians from the Cologne jazz scene: Lars Duppler (piano), Jens Bachmann (bass) and Marcus Möller (drums).
From 2001 to 2003, Inga Lühning gave private lessons at the Offene Jazz Haus Schule in Cologne, and was leader of the jazz choir. Around the same time, she began teaching at the Henneberger music school in Bonn.
Inga Lühning has been teaching Pop Vocals at the Institute For Music And Media of the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media since 2011.
