Prof. Hans Peter Reutter
Professor for Music theory
Hans Peter Reutter studied composition with György Ligeti and music theory with, among others, Wolfgang A. Schultz, Christoph Hohlfeld and Christian Möllers. His works have been performed at festivals in Amsterdam, Donaueschingen and Graz. Hans Peter Reutter is the co-founder of the Hamburg-based Chaosma Ensemble, which has set itself the goal of using new techniques such as microtonality and polyrhythms while also appealing to audiences again directly by including pop, jazz, medieval, African and other non-European music in its programming. After teaching at Hamburg’s Musikhochschule and the Hamburg Conservatory, in 2005 he was appointed Professor of Music Theory at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Since the winter semester 2007/08, he has been Chairman of the Department of Compositional Studies.

He also appears as a cabaret artist throughout Germany (Emmi & Bertie, Monty Arnold, Poppschutz with Thorsten Saleina, and Käthe Lachmann). He has given presentations and published on the topics of Stravinsky, Ligeti, microtonality and 19th-century music.
