Prof. Ulla Barthold
Assistant professor for Visual Composition Camera and Lighting
ulla.barthold(at)rsh-duesseldorf.de Ulla Barthold was born in 1951. She studied history, political science and English philology at the University of Tuebingen, Germany. In 1977 she passed her First State Examination. From 1977 to 1979 she worked as a trainee teacher and graduated from university with her Second State Examination in 1979. Between 1979 and 1981 Barthold completed several internships within the media business and worked as an assistant camera operator making movies, documentaries and commercials from 1981 and 1986.  Since 1986 Ulla Barthold has been working as a freelance director of photography for the public German TV broadcasters ARD, ZDF and for other private broadcasters as well. She has been working with freelance filmmakers and video artists.  From 1988 to 1999 she teached camera operating and lighting in the field of video and film at the University of Applied Sciences Duesseldorf. Since 2000 Barthold has also been an Assistant Professor at the University of the Arts Berlin for the Faculty of Experimental Media. Since 1999 Ulla Barthold has been teaching Visual Composition Camera and Lighting in the program Audio and Video Engineering and within the Institute For Music And Media at the University of Music Duesseldorf since its foundation.
