To Probe Is to Interact
The light and sound installation To Probe Is to Interact by Matthias Erdmann explores the wave-particle dualism in quantum mechanics.
The probability wave – represented by simple harmonic components – dissolves in the transformation into particles, which is then marked by impulse-like sounds. The underlying theme can be experienced visually and in sound by means of light projection in the room and illustrates the properties of both states and their connection to each other. The people attending the exhibition are part of the system and each person can decide to intervene or not and thus influence the dualism and the underlying structure.
To Probe Is to Interact by Matthias Erdmann was an exam project for the Visual Music major at the Institute of Music and Media of the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. The project was supervised by Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling and Marcus Schmickler.
