On 9 March 1687 at 10pm, a mysterious and loud noise of unknown origin descended upon the city of Santa Fé de Bogotá, lasting 15 minutes and inducing a collective panic among the city’s inhabitants. Inspired by this incident, the installation by María Camila Agudelo Mejía explores the use of otoacoustic emissions,* quadrophonic sound, and moving light to create an altered perception of space.

The light and sound installation “Tiemp del ruido” (“Noise Time”) by María Camila Agudelo Mejía was the artist’s master's project at the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, where she majored in Visual Music. The work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling and Marcus Schmickler.

*Otoacoustic emissions are sound waves produced by the inner ear directly in response to acoustic stimulation.
