The video installation Metamorphosen des Seins (engl. Metamorphoses of Being) by Vladyslav Masko offers a unique look at the evolution of existence. The story explores three levels of perception, from the mesmerizing primitiveness of nature, which lies beyond our consciousness, to the conscious image of ourselves as part of human society. The culmination manifests itself in the sonic absurdity of pain and the climax of fear of death and the unknown, leading to a catharsis that connects us with the infinite cosmos. Each television in the installation is an independent information window that shows a general or specific aspect of the metamorphoses: from stasis to movement, blossoming to extinction, joy to pain. The acoustic, immersive sound experience allows viewers to feel the fullness and complexity of human perception.

The video installation Metamorphosen des Seins (engl. Metamorphoses of Being) was Masko’s final project in the Visual Music program at the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. The work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling and Marcus Schmickler.
