CD-Production with the RSH Vocal Ensemble
The summer semester of 2022 witnessed an extremely successful collaboration between students in the Classical Music Recording program and students in Prof. Timo Nuoranne’s class for choral conducting: in a three-day production with the RSH vocal ensemble in the Immanuelskirche in Wuppertal, 23 choral songs by Robert Schumman were recorded. The ensemble was directed by a rotating cast of students from the choral conducting class: Jean-Philippe Apel, Jonathan Busse, Lisa-Marie Holzschuh, Giovanni Solinas, Yewon Su, and Grant Sung. The role of musical recording manager (Tonmeister) was taken on jointly by Benedikt Wild and Roman Meier, while Yannic Fehsenfeld took on the role of sound engineer; all three are students in the Music and Media bachelor’s program majoring in Classical Music Recording. The Institute for Music and Media’s Sound Broadcasting I vehicle was used for the production, which was supervised by Prof. Dagmar Birwe.
Here, we hear the four songs of op. 141: 1. “An die Sterne” (“To the Stars”) (conducted by Giovanni Solinas), 2. “Ungewisses Licht” (“Uncertain Light”) (conducted by Yewon Su), 3. “Zuversicht” (“Confidence”) (conducted by Grant Sung), 4. “Talismane” (“Talismans”) (conducted by Jean-Philippe Apel) as well as Op. 55/2 “Zahnweh” (“Toothache”) (conducted by Jonathan Busse) and Op. 75/2 “Im Walde” (“In the Woods”) (conducted by Lisa-Marie Holzschuh).
